Fleet Digitalization Reduces Operating Costs and Risks for Transport Operations in Mexico

Sep.14.2026

Challenges

As global logistics and transportation demand continues to grow, promptly monitoring vehicle locations, abnormal stops, and shipment progress has become a significant challenge for businesses. With the expansion of fleet sizes, operational risks and management costs have also increased further.

This case study involves a large-scale tool manufacturer and a leading company in the hardware industry, headquartered in Mexico City. Facing complex supply chain and transportation systems, the company urgently needed to enhance real-time visibility and management efficiency for its vehicles and goods, reduce operational risks arising from abnormal transportation events, and further implement more refined operational practices.

To maintain high standards in logistics and supply chain management, the company decided to implement IoT-based positioning technology. They chose to partner with CANMORE to address three key challenges:

  • Monitor cargo locations and logistics progress to prevent theft
  • Ensure driver safety and reduce operational risk costs
  • Implement granular operational management for vehicles, drivers, routes, and cargo

Solution

To address client’s transportation management needs, CANMORE provides an integrated IoT-based location tracking solution that connects vehicle positioning, trajectory tracking, and transportation status management, transforming freight transportation management from information delays to real-time visibility. Now, let's see how software, hardware, and various system integrations work together to achieve this.

Software

Powered by LBS, CMP, and OTA core platforms, we collect data from all connected devices and transform it into actionable insights. CANMORE provides Mexican logistics companies with the visualization and management control capabilities needed for safe and efficient operations.

The WhatsGPS platform offers a range of core functions, supporting supporting both fleet safety and daily operations:

Real-time tracking: Managers can clearly view truck locations, speeds, and historical routes, enabling immediate action upon detecting anomalies.

Geofencing: Authorized unloading areas can be clearly defined by setting up virtual zones. If a truck attempts to unload outside these areas, the device will automatically lock and send an alert to management, ensuring safety even in areas with limited or no network coverage.

Driver Behavior Monitoring: The WhatsGPS platform records dangerous driving behaviors such as speeding, sudden braking, sharp turns, phone use, and smoking, providing managers with essential data to improve driving safety and reduce fuel and maintenance costs.

Hardware

To meet the client’s diverse needs, we selected a rechargeable Wireless Asset Tracker (W18L GPS Tracker) capable of meeting all project requirements.

A key capability of this device is its real-time location data, supporting end-to-end delivery traceability and cargo loss analysis. It also provides real-time cargo information monitoring through visualizations such as charts and tables, and supports one-click data export.

We also configured it with ultra-thin Bluetooth tags with an IP67 waterproof rating. These tags can be easily placed in multiple cargo compartments and maintain stable transmission within special enclosed metal cargo compartments, effectively ensuring information continuity and reliability.

In addition, the device is equipped with the following efficient and practical functions:

Bluetooth Configuration: Bluetooth beacons broadcast unique signals that nearby devices can detect, enabling the tracking of the truck's location and arrival time at specific points. These beacons are highly energy efficient, allowing for extended operation with extremely low power consumption.

Multiple Operating ModesUsers can configure different operating modes according to their needs, such as timed location tracking, intelligent tracking, deep sleep mode, and alarm clock mode, greatly improving device utilization and reducing unnecessary battery consumption.

Long Battery Life: The device is equipped with a 10,000mAh high-capacity battery, supporting up to 12 days of operation based on 8 hours of use per day. Furthermore, when installed in the cab, the W18L supports continuous charging, ensuring continuous operation.

Results

01 | Unified Management of Fleet Visibility

Managers can now centrally access video telematics, fleet tracking, and management functions on a single platform, eliminating the need to switch between systems. Comprehensive data analytics—including real-time GPS positioning, route tracking, and shipment status management—make daily fleet monitoring simpler and more efficient.

02 | Lower transportation risks and management costs

Through geofencing and proactive alert systems, businesses can promptly detect anomalies; issues such as route deviations or abnormal dwell times can be swiftly identified and addressed, significantly reducing transportation risks—including cargo theft and abnormal dwell times.

03 | Optimized Routes and Driver Management

By leveraging continuously accumulated vehicle trajectory and operational data, companies can optimize transportation routes, reduce unnecessary mileage, and enhance driver behavior management to ensure driver safety.

Benefits

For logistics operators, the value of GPS tracking goes beyond simply knowing where a vehicle is.

What truly matters is using a unified, intelligent tracking system to connect data across devices and automatically generate visual dashboards; this enables managers to monitor operational status in real time, promptly identify anomalies, and make more precise scheduling decisions based on data.

Starting with an initial deployment of 500 units and expanding to an additional 2,000 units six months later, this project demonstrates the practical value of GPS tracking for large-scale logistics operations: making every shipment more visible, every journey more controllable, and logistics management more proactive and data-driven.
