Smart Tanker Monitoring for Safer Transport in Yemen with CANMORE’s Solar Powered Trackers
Challenges
This project was developed as part of a government-supported initiative for a local gasoline company in Yemen, focusing on tracking and managing fuel tankers operating across different areas.
A key issue the client mentioned was that their tanker assets were managed across different locations, making it difficult to maintain real-time fleet visibility. Without an effective monitoring system, it was difficult to access real-time information on vehicle locations and routes, which affected daily asset management, transportation monitoring, and dispatching.
The risk was further complicated by unstable network coverage in Yemen. With conventional single-SIM devices, a loss of service from one network operator could interrupt connectivity and create gaps in vehicle tracking, making continuous monitoring difficult.
In addition, the tankers could not provide continuous external power to tracking devices. Obviously, conventional vehicle-powered solutions and small-capacity battery-powered devices fail to meet the demands of long-term outdoor operations.
Read on to discover how CANMORE helped improve the visibility and management of tanker operations.
Solution
Hardware
Based on the client’s requirements for reliable connectivity, continuous positioning, and long-term operation, CANMORE provided a solar-powered GPS tracker (W20L GPS Tracker),designed for challenging network conditions and long-term outdoor transportation. Through OEM customization, CANMORE further customized the device to meet the client’s specific project requirements, enabling continuous GPS tracking for fuel tankers and centralized management.

01 | Dual-SIM Connectivity
The device supports dual-SIM connectivity and can switch between operator networks according to network conditions. This reduces tracking gaps caused by the interruption of a single SIM connection and improves tracking continuity.
02 | Reliable Long-Lasting Power
With a high-capacity battery and high-efficiency solar power supply, it can operate for approximately 30–60 days, reducing the need for frequent removal, charging, and maintenance.
03 | 6-axis Acceleration Sensor
The device can monitor asset dumping and rollover, and trigger timely alarm for safety issues.
Software
To achieve more integrated and transparent fleet management, CANMORE used API and SDK functionalities to connect its platform with the client’s internal systems, enabling trip data to be stored and managed in one place.
With comprehensive route tracking capabilities, clients can replay trips from the previous month, define stop-duration thresholds, and set up geofences. This provides better visibility into driver efficiency, unnecessary stops, and overall journey progress, while real-time notifications keep clients informed throughout each trip.
Driver behavior and route compliance can also be monitored in real time. The platform detects violations such as speeding, sharp turns, and route deviations, while visual reports provide detailed insights into abnormal trips and events. This allows clients to respond quickly and take appropriate corrective actions or address driver performance issues.
Results
Following the successful deployment of the first 200 W20L units, the client expanded the project to a total deployment of 2,500 units. With CANMORE’s integrated hardware and software solution and professional technical support, the solution delivered more reliable and efficient operations.
01 | Reduced Tracking Interruptions from Network Interruptions
The dual-network solution helped reduce tracking interruptions caused by the loss of connectivity from a single operator, providing more reliable connectivity and continuous positioning in challenging network environments.
02 | Unified, transparent, and integrated platform
By integrating vehicle, driver, and trip information into the WhatsGPS platform, CANMORE enabled the client to monitor and manage thousands of daily trips with greater transparency and efficiency, simplifying operations and improving overall management efficiency.
03 | Enhanced Asset Security and Faster Incident Response
With Hall-effect tamper alerts, the device reliably detects unauthorized removal and triggers timely alerts regardless of how the device is installed, enabling security teams to respond quickly. Complete historical trip records provide quick access to relevant information for investigation and traceability, helping safeguard valuable assets.
